![]() The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, along with its Weissach Package variant, has recently set new records for electric series-production cars on renowned race tracks, underscoring Porsche’s engineering prowess and the vehicle’s exceptional performance capabilities. Development driver Lars Kern piloted the Taycan Turbo GT to a record lap time at the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California, marking it as the fastest electric series-production car at this track with a time of 1:27.87. Additionally, Kern established a new class record at the Nürburgring, driving a pre-production model of the same vehicle to achieve a lap time of 7:07.55, significantly outperforming previous records including his own in a Taycan Turbo S. Porsche attributes these achievements to the holistic design approach of the Taycan, emphasizing not just power, but a balanced integration of acceleration, braking, aerodynamics, and handling. The Taycan Turbo GT models, particularly with the Weissach Package, exemplify this philosophy, offering a combination of advanced powertrain technology, aerodynamic design, and lightweight construction measures that elevate driving dynamics and enjoyment. The Taycan Turbo GT’s powertrain has been enhanced, with new power electronics and a rear-axle motor that boost overall system power. This results in a significantly quicker acceleration compared to previous models, achieving 0 to 60 mph in just 2.2 seconds, or 2.1 seconds with the Weissach Package. The vehicles feature a pulse inverter capable of 900 amps, up from 600 amps in the Turbo S, allowing for more power and torque. Silicon carbide in the pulse inverters improves efficiency by reducing switching losses. Lightweight construction plays a crucial role in the Taycan Turbo GT’s performance. Porsche has utilized carbon fiber components and innovative construction techniques to reduce weight, enhance aerodynamics, and improve braking performance. The Weissach Package further emphasizes lightweight and aerodynamic design, incorporating additional features such as a fixed rear wing for increased downforce. The Taycan Turbo GT is also designed with track performance in mind, featuring “Attack Mode” for a temporary boost in power, similar to the push-to-pass function but optimized for track use. The vehicle’s suspension and braking systems have been tailored for dynamic driving, with special performance tires and lightweight ceramic brakes standard. Aesthetically, the Taycan Turbo GT and its Weissach Package variant offer exclusive design elements and color options, with a focus on materials like carbon fiber to emphasize the car’s sporting nature. The interior is equipped with sporty Race-Tex features and Adaptive Sports Seats Plus, among other premium details tailored for performance enthusiasts. The 2025 Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package are priced starting at $230,000, excluding taxes and fees, with deliveries expected to begin in the summer of 2024. These models represent the pinnacle of Porsche’s electric vehicle performance, combining innovative engineering with a comprehensive approach to design and functionality aimed at providing an unparalleled driving experience. On Thursday, Porsche debuted the new, all-electric 2024 Macan, which ditches cylinders for battery cells yet still promises stellar performance. At least initially, this amped-up SUV will be offered in two flavors: the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, both of which come standard with two electric motors and all-wheel drive. As for output, the former delivers up to 402 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, ample figures to be certain, while the latter is good for a staggering 630 ponies and 833 lb-ft. That’s enough secret sauce to get the Macan 4 from a standstill to 60 mph in an estimated 4.9 seconds, though the Turbo will do the same deed in a blistering 3.1. In a media release shared by Porsche, Jörg Kerner, vice president of the Macan range said, “Our aim is to offer the sportiest model in its segment with the all-electric Macan. In many ways, we are taking a very successful SUV to a new level.” Given the above-mentioned performance figures, it would appear that Zuffenhausen’s engineers have succeeded in this mission, all while creating a vehicle that produces zero tailpipe emissions. Providing the juice is a generously sized battery with a usable capacity of 95 kilowatt-hours (the gross capacity is 100 kWh). Just like the pioneering Taycan, this pack features an 800-volt architecture, which provides incredibly speedy DC fast charging. In fact, the battery tops out at 270 kilowatts, an absolutely thundering performance, one that’s potent enough to get you from 10 to 80% in as little as 21 minutes. Providing a smooth ride and connected feel, both versions of the all-electric Macan feature an adjustable air suspension system paired with active dampers. Additionally, these SUVs are available with rear-axle steering, a first for the popular Macan. This setup can angle the back wheels by up to 5 degrees to improve highway stability as well as low-speed agility, cutting the turning circle down to a curt 36.4 feet. A compact SUV, the new 2024 electric Macan is 188.4 inches long and 63.8 inches high. The wheelbase is generous, just shy of 114 inches, 3.4 inches more than the previous, combustion-powered model’s hub-to-hub span. It may be new, but this SUV still looks like a Macan. It has a sleek, rounded body, pod-style mirror housings and large wheels. The front and rear overhangs are nice and short, the iconic Porsche logo sits in the middle of a 3D light strip at the rear, and you can even equip the new Macan with special LED matrix headlamps. This SUV’s body isn’t just attractive, it’s functional, too. Overall, this battery-powered Porsche cheats the wind with a coefficient of drag of just 0.25. Additionally, there’s generous cargo space, 18 cubic feet behind the second-row seat, though if you drop the backrests that figure grows to 46.5. And since this is an EV, there’s also the possibility of having a front trunk, which gives you an additional 2.9 cubes of storage space. Inside, the electric Macan’s cabin is attractive and functional, with an elegant — and classic — dashboard layout. If you were expecting radical changes, you might be disappointed, but if good taste is what you’re after, this Porsche delivers. Naturally, there’s plenty of tech, too, up to three screens. This includes a 10.9-inch central touch panel as well as a 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster. You can also fit this vehicle with a second 10.9-inch screen on the passenger side of the dashboard. And like any high-end vehicle that’s worth its salt, a head-up display with augmented reality navigation capability is also offered. If the new electric Macan has caught your eye, you can order one right now, though deliveries aren’t expected to begin until the second half of 2024, so be patient. As for pricing, the Macan 4 starts at a surprisingly reasonable $80,450, while the Turbo will kick off in the neighborhood of $106,950. Both prices include $1,650 in destination fees. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This article originally appeared on our sister site, EV Pulse. Via https://flatsixes.com/porsche-news/2024-porsche-macan-debuts-as-electric-only-performance-crossover/ ![]() Porsche has once again demonstrated its prowess in the electric vehicle arena with its pre-series Taycan, setting a new lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. This record-breaking lap, clocked at 7:07.55 minutes, was achieved by Porsche development driver Lars Kern. This time is a significant 26 seconds faster than the previous record set by the Taycan Turbo S in August 2022. The achievement is not just a testament to speed, but also to the Taycan’s ability to sustain high performance over long distances, a challenge for many electric vehicles. The consistency of the Taycan’s performance is also notable, as Kern was able to record almost the same time over several laps. This puts the Taycan in direct competition with top-tier internal combustion cars and electric hypercars. Under the hood, the new top-spec Taycan is expected to feature three motors, surpassing the two motors in the Turbo S, and delivering over 800PS (588kW) of power. This significant power upgrade is expected to offer enhanced torque vectoring and power distribution, particularly on the rear axle. The Taycan prototype’s performance has even surpassed that of the Tesla Model S Plaid by 18 seconds, highlighting the rapid advancements in electric vehicle technology. Porsche’s new Taycan model, possibly named the Turbo GT, is set to redefine expectations for electric performance cars. Porsche plans to reveal more details about this high-performance Taycan model soon, with an official onboard video of the record-breaking lap expected to be released in March. This new model is not just a milestone for Porsche but a significant moment in the evolution of electric vehicles in high-performance settings. The German automaker gave its popular SUV noticeable changes to the interior and even brought back a V8 engine to choose from in the lineup. Available for order now, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne will arrive at U.S. dealerships this summer with pricing starting from $80,850, including destination. More information on pricing for each model can be found below. Starting with the exterior, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne sports a new front end that features more athletic fenders, a new hood, and redesigned headlights. The rear gets three-dimensionally-designed taillights and a new rear fascia with an integrated license plate holder, giving it a less cluttered design. Three new colors have been added to the lineup: Algarve Blue Metallic, Montego Blue Metallic, and Arctic Grey. Cayenne Coupe buyers can opt for a Lightweight Sport Package, which sheds 72 pounds from the car. Finally, a new range of 20-, 21-, and 22-inch wheels have been added for customers to choose from. As we mentioned earlier, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne brings back the V8 engine for the Cayenne S models, replacing the previous V6. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 offers 468 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, offering 34 more ponies and 37 lb-ft more torque than the outgoing V6. Both the SUV and SUV Coupe models go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds when combined with the Sport Chrono Package. The top speed on the Cayenne S is limited to 169 mph. The standard 2024 Cayenne is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 348 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque, which is 13 hp and 36 lb-ft more than before. For the Cayenne E-Hybrid, a new electric motor generates 174 hp, bringing the combined system output to 463 hp. More importantly, a new high-voltage battery has a 25.9-kWh capacity, compared to 17.9 kWh found in the previous model. Unfortunately, EPA range estimates won’t be announced until closer to launch. The larger battery pack is accompanied by a new 11-kW on-board AC charger, which shortens charging time with an appropriate Level 2 charger to under 2.5 hours. At the top of the range sits the Turbo GT, which now offers 650 hp, an increase of 19 hp, from its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. Standard features on this range-topping model include Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB), rear-axle steering, Sport Exhaust system with titanium tailpipes, and 22-inch GT Design wheels. The Cayenne Turbo GT goes from zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and has a top track speed of 189 mph. Inside, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne sees a few upgrades with a completely revised display and control concept. The new Porsche Driver Experience, which was first introduced in the Taycan, now finds its way to the Cayenne. The goal is to put everyday functions directly on or immediately next to the steering wheel. Drivers will find the stalk located on the left, behind the steering wheel, now featuring additional functions for the driver assistance systems. Meanwhile, the gear selector is now on the dashboard, making room for a new center console for storage and a large air conditioning controller. The instrument cluster is now a digital 12.6-inch unit boasting a curved and freestanding design. A head-up display is available as an option. For the first time, a 10.9-inch display is available for the passenger side, which displays performance data and has separate access to the infotainment system controls and the option of streaming video content on the road. The German automaker focused on balancing digital and analog elements with the new Porsche Driver Experience. 2024 Porsche Cayenne Pricing (including $1,650 destination fee)
